Get In Some Rest and Relaxation with These Three Screen Free Activities

You need to learn how to kick back and relax! Between stressing out about your career, finances, and just standard, everyday life stuff, sorting out a way to unwind is a high priority for most. Nowadays, everybody can benefit from a hobby or two that allows them some real R&R time. Yet, so many of the activities we usually turn to when stressed involve screens, whether they are TV, computer, gaming console, or smartphone screens. If you're hoping to let loose, while avoiding extra screen-time, look to these three ideas.

Color your cares away.

Coloring is both nostalgic and great for stress relief, thanks to the activity’s repetitive motions, which are scientifically proven to soothe your brain. Plus, it’s hard not to feel a sense of accomplishment after completing a page or a particularly challenging section. Pick up a coloring book for adults, which will feature more difficult templates than children’s coloring books, or simply pick up a pack of crayons or colored pencils and start doodling.

Read a good book.

Did you know that reading can melt away stress in mere minutes? Reading lowers your heart rate and eases muscle tension. According to one study by the University of Sussex, reading can reduce stress by 68 percent, making it more effective than listening to music, going for a walk, or drinking a hot cup of tea. We bet you’ve got plenty of unread titles lying around – so, why not pick one up and start reading?

Complete a DIY project.

DIY projects are so effective, they are even used in occupational therapy practice! The right DIY project will take your mind off of other, more stressful things while exercising your creativity. Plus, completing a DIY project gives you a boost of confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Try knitting, painting, or doing small projects around the house.
